Default 1981 KZ 750 LTD Clutch Cable Routing

Replacing the clutch cable on my 1981 KZ 750 LTD. Question, does the cable from the clutch lever go "inside" the fork or on the "outside" of the fork. The old one was on the outside but have not seen any pics of it installed that way. What do you say...inside or outside.

I have an 80 kz1000 ltd. I just rerouted mine when I lowered/flipped my handlebars. The bars were lower so I sent it down through the headlight bracket, along the side of the wire harness cable and down through the middle of the forks. It's still a little tight, but not nearly as bad as when I started.

Not quite sure how the 81 750 looks, but that's how I did mine. Hope it helps.

I'd say route it between the headlight housing and the left fork on the inside for a realatively straight shot down the frame going toward the clutch cable attachment area. It might be a good idea to get some 1/4" I.D. black spiral wrap to protect the cable housing in wear areas. I got mine at Radio Shack.

The spiral wrap is a fairly low temperature plastic, so avoid high heat places like around the exhaust system.

As long as you've got the side cover off, clean, inspect, and re-grease the clutch actuation mechanism.

And I will get some wrap, too.
