well the only thing that makes me think it is not the carbs is because i was having the problem, cleaned the carbs, then it was still having the same problem. it still could be fuel but i dont know... could the carbs not being synched be the problem... i dont know anything about doing that so i would probably have to take it in

okay now im back after a lot of trial and error. i finally got the bike to run on all cylinders (it ended up being a bad plug wire)simple fix so i thought but the bike would still not idle so i took it to a mechanic that works on older stuff to make proper carb adjustments. He finally rebuilt it because he couldnt fix the problem and it would still only idle when it was choked. it seemed to go down the road fine but occasionally it would load up and die...the latest problem is that it is pouring oily gas out of the overflow and where the headgasket is located. i know the compression is low at 120 psi across the board but it does not smoke. the mechanic said the valve clearances are good but even if they werent, i would still not have oily gas spilling out. now what's my problem?

You should not have oil mixed with gas. Sounds like you have a carb flooding. Check your plugs to find out which one.

the way it sounds all the problems are in the head or cylinders you could re build the heads and if that don't fix it go for the rings i think i you had the heads completely rebuilt it would fix it

What "overflow" are you talking about that has "Oily gas" coming out of it?
