Have to replace a couple of bearings in the shock-linkage on the GPz. When Kawasaki say check and grease every 10,000KM, they mean it.
I found the parts online at Babbit's, but will be getting them here in the city at a bearing shop. Pay about 1/2 of what I would at the Kawi dealer. So I need one needle bearing. It has the Kawi part number, then says "Needle Bearing" then has HK 2016 after that. My question. Is HK 1026 the # I need to tell the folks at the bearing shop? I usually just bring in the old one and they match it up, but I've been a bit busy the past few days and just want to go in and get them, hopefully pop em' in on the weekend. Thanx everyone.

Shows to be the same bearing as mine and rather than worry about getting the wrong size I just ordered mine from Z1enterprises. I mean for $18 is it really worth the hassle. I also installed a grease fitting on my swing arm while i had it off to make greasing it a lot easier and I'm able to do it a lot more frequently.

NTN BEARING CORPORATION OF AMERICA - Introduction to Ball Bearings So as an example a 6205-2RS bearing (very common motorcycle wheel bearing) 62 = 90mm O.D 05 = 25mm bore 2RS = bearing uses 2 rubber seals One last cool trick is that Kawasaki uses NTN type numbers within their Kawasaki P/N. So if you have a parts salseman that really knows Kawi numbers well, tell him you need a "6205" Kawi bearing, and he shold know exactly how to easily find one. All Kawi ball type bearing #'s begin with 601B, then add the NTN # and you end up with 601B6205

First off I goofed. I meant shock linkage bearing's, not swingarm.
Just tried all the bearing supply stores here in Halifax. They can get me one of the needle bearings, the other they say there are none in Canada! So I called the dealer. He can get me the one by Friday, the one that is supposedly not in Canada is on back order, so who know's when it will get here. 2 bearings from Kawi $35. IF the bearing supply stores had them, I would have gotten away with both for $15. Talk about dealer mark-up. And 6 little rubber dust seals for the bearings, $40 from Kawi!!!! Thats just insane. $6+ a piece for about 10 cents worth of rubber. I'll try to fabricate my own dust seals. Hopefully it won't take forever, but my experience with Kawi and back-orders has always been a "forever" experience. The one needle bearing that's on backorder is an FJ-202. Kawi # 92046-1061

750Turbo.com - View topic - Needle bearings for unitrack linkage
Was looking online and found this. It says 4 FJ-202 or 4 HK 2020. Does this mean that the HK 2020 are the same as the FJ-202? If so, i'll try the bearings shops tomorrow and see if they have any HK 2020 in stock.

For a bike older than 10-15 years, "Backorder" may indeed mean "No Longer Available".

The bearing shop I went to today told me all the bearings for my bike are very, very common sizes, so availability will never be an issue. I know because I went in ready to order 2 of each kind the bike uses. The only one's that may pose a problem replacing are the bearing for the dogbones on the swingarm linkage, whicr are actually little ball joints. Mine are still tight and in excellent shape, and thank go for that. They are $75 a pop at the Kawi dealer, and are the size of valve guide seals. Makes me wonder how Kawi cans ell any parts, but it's the nature of the beast i suppose.

Swapping out the bearings turned out to be a real easy job. Its amazing how one can slowly adapt to things becomming worn. I took the bike for a spin, and couldn't believe how dramatic the handling had improved. I guess the fact that there was a half inch play in the shock linkage didn't help! I put the grease to everything, got the swingarm nice and shiny and fabricated some dust seals myself out of some of my daughters hollow rubber play balls, which worked perfect "and didn't cost me $6 a pop like Kawi seals"!
I'm pleased at how it turned out, and more pleased that I didn't have to pay the shop $75 an hour to do it.

And if you want an even bigger improvement, find yourself a ZR7S rear shock, swap the top rubber bushing from the GPz shock into the ZR7S shock, then just bolt it on.
I did it to the 750 Turbo a couple weeks ago. |

I was going to upgrade the shock, but chanches are we are moving to Victoria B.C, and I'm selling the bike if we do. When we get out there, my plans are to get either a ZRX 1200 or a 90's GPz 1100.
