Smile Kz1000r

Hi there!
My name is Peter and I have a kz1000r form 1983 (live in Sweden). And I wonder if the rear shocks are rebuildable or not. Are there any other shocks I can use that is not to expensive? Read somwhere that shocks from Goldwing should fit. Is that true?

Regards Peter

Hello Peter...as you well know...the shocks for your bike are rather expensive and replacement shocks equally expensive. If you haven't done so already, post this same question on www.kz1000R.com

most stock shocks are not rebuildable. goldwing shock are have damping rate for a goldwing weight u could end up with ruff ride. there are aftermarket shocks im not sure of cost.

Ante up for Works Performance or Ohlins shocks.

THOSE bikes deserve the best.

The 550 Zephyrs have the Showa piggy back shocks on them from the factory. Adam on his All Things 550 forums listed a guy who knows the shocks for them and not only rebuilds but revalves them. Adam told me the guy is good at what he does with them. I can't afford it at this time, but I understand it to be under $200 for the Zephyr shocks.

The shock guy may be able to do the KZ1000R shocks if they can be done. His web site is Aftershocks - The Suspension Experts He's on the west coast. You could contact him to see if they can be reworked and how much it would cost. Nothing to lose and possibly a goodly amount of money to be saved.
