Would the zero guage be for setting hydraulic actutated valves?
I am thinking it still may be a valve issue since he said he tried to clean the carbon as best he could. If it was that apparent then the head should have been disassembled and clean thoroughly. I have a wire wheel on one side of my bench grinder I use for things like that but in times past I have chucked the valve in a drill and used a dull knife to scrape off the carbon. I also use a drill to touch up the valve seats by applying a little valve grinding compound on the valve face and seat and spin it in the head with the drill. I do this any time I take any valves out of a head. I had an old ford pinto that had a leaking valve that I fixed that way years ago.

You've got a 0, it's right next to the .001, you just haven't noticed it.

So I called my snap on dealer, wow them zero and negative thickness feeeler gauges are pricey.
He said its because they are a specialty item, and he only sells a few sets a year.
