Default Headlight only works on high-beam

I was having problems with my LH control pod after I replaced my handlebars.

(77 KZ1000)

Everytime I would flip from High to Low beams a fuse would pop.

In addition, the low beam would and/still does not stay on after startup & revving up the motor. But, the High Beam stays on and does not dim when revving the bike.

I replaced the LH control pod and it fixed the fuse issue, as I assume it was a pinched wire.

I cleaned all the connectors throughout the electrical system and made sure all the wires matchup. I had new plugs, points, condensor, etc. also replaced. The battery is fully charged.

I took the RH control pod off and inspected it, but did not see any damage to the wires.

Any ideas? Alternator/Stator?

Have you changed the headlight over to a high intensity type headlight with the small replaceable bulb? If not, dont! If your using the regular three prong high/low 7"round headlight, then one of the filaments is probably burnt, check that out. If your headlight checks out good, then you may have the two positive wires crossed or mismatched at the switch.

The 77 KZ1000 has three wires at the dimmer switch. Red/Black, Blue, and Red/Yellow. The headlight connector also has three wires. Red/Black(from the switch, and is high beam) Red/Yellow(also from the switch, and is the low beam) Yellow/Black(this is the common ground and does not come from the switch) Check this out also!

Sounds like this might just be "over thought".
Head light bulbs, like directional bulbs (1157, 3157 etc) have 2 filaments. One for low beam, the other for high. Sounds like the low beam filament might out.
Your brake light works the same way, sort of 2 bulbs in 1. If one filament breaks then that one will just be a tail not a brake or Vice-versa.

The filament won't always be noticeably broken.
Could test with ohm meter or just pop in a new bulb or try your bulb in another headlight.

Thanks for the help.

It was the headlamp after all.

This of course is after cleaning every damn electrical contact/lead on the bike.

Now, back to the brake problem.

Just consider that as preventative maintenance.
