Default Brake question

Hello all
I'm looking for some help on a rear brake repair for my 1979 KZ400 H1 LTD. I recently replaced the brake shoes, but wasn't given new springs. What's happening is when I depress the brake the wheel stops, but the brakes won't release. The peddle goes back to where it should, but the brakes stay locked. Any suggestions? I think it might have something to do with the springs, but I'm not sure.
Thanks in advance

sounds like the return springs are binding, not properly installed, or shot

WOW! Thanks for the quick response.
I thought it might be that, but I wanted to check as this is my first bike.
I'll see if I can get new ones.
Just so I know, what is the proper way to install them? Is there a special configuration that you know of?
Again, thanks

I just looked on parts nation and it looks like the springs will only go one way. I do not see how you could install them wrong unless you just left them out.

So either the springs are in need of replacing or something is binding. Did you clean it real well and lube the cam brake? That may help.
