Default Air filter question

Why is it that kawasaki apparently has different air filters with different part #s for the same air box? Or the box looks the same anyway and the filter looks the same but the part # is different.

I was looking on ebay for a filter and the only one I found with matching numbers to what kawasaki's site shows does not even look right. I found several for the kz 650 and 750 that looked to fit and even their air box looked the same but the filter number was different. The number often was different for the filters that looked the same.

Not sure how much help this will be. I found these for the 1983 ZX750-A1 GPz750 Ninja 750R....
Element Holder - 13091-1147
Element Holder - 13091-1151

But I didn't find the Air Filter Element - 11013-1101.
However, it's listed as Active, so maybe the dealer has one.

This air filter might work w one of those Element Holders - just guessing.
UNI Air Filter Kawasaki KZ650 KZ700 KZ750 GPZ750 79-85
The description says This is an auction for 6 brand new Uni Air Filter Element part # NU-2337

Edit: The Uni Filters should be readily available - Dennis Kirk, JC Whitney or etc. Those are the foam/oil type of filters.

Looking in my service manual I noticed the gpz uses an oil type element and the normal kz uses a dry type. But even the dry types have several different numbers.

I found this one on ebay that is supposed to fit. KAWASAKI ZX 750 AIR FILTER OEM # 11013-1074/1101/1060:eBay Motors (item 170281453691 end time Nov-18-09 07:49:30 PST)
However from that pic it looks nothing like mine. I have the cage and all and only need the foam sleeve. I guess I could email the seller and see if he would send me a better pic. But I thought about just going with a dry type. Is the oil type better for performance?

I don't know what type is best. The Uni Filter that I linked looks like the foam/oil type & it's supposed to fit the GPz750 (82-85).

Also, the air filter you linked may be in error - going by the photo that one is Emgo 12-92940. Using the Emgo calalogue, the information he shows should be for the 12-92944.

Here's the info from the catalogue (12-92940 isn't in the catalogue):
12-92944
11013-1060/1074/1101
Z650F4 European All
KZ700A/ZN700A 84
KZ750N/R/F/H/L/N 82-83
ZX750A 83-85
ZX1100A GPZ1100

Howdy Paul, I read the post indicating your bike required an oil type filter and KZs required dry, which is true.....but! The K&N filter(upgrade) is an oil filter, meaning that the filter itself is a "permanant" filter requiring periodic cleaning and re-oiling with the red dyed air filter oil.The differance in part numbers may be the differance between disposable and the reusable type filters.

Yeah I am not going to mess with that ebay one because after a couple emails to him I came away with the feeling it will not work on mine even though he said it fits the 83-85 gpz.

I am just going to get one like in the link herk posted or one like this.
NOS Kawasaki KZ650 KZ750 Air Filter 11013-1025:eBay Motors (item 220473718195 end time Oct-29-09 12:17:26 PDT)

Thanks for the replies.

That filter is available at Z1Enterprises for less than $10.

I kinda wonder if a paper filter would be too restrictive.

....

they pretty much all came with paper elements when they were new. hell, even all these new 140hp super bikes on the road now come with paper filters.

That is kind of what I was asking but really do not see how since the cap only has small holes running inside the filter. Which looks to be the most restrictive part of the whole set-up.

I looked at Z1 and their price is a bit over $7 + shipping. Just need to see if I can think of some more things I need before ordering. They do not seem to carry the oil type.

And zoro... I knew better than that.

I would contact Z1 to see what they can get - either the oem or the Uni.
