Rattles When I Try To Start Up

Re: '81 KZ 750 LTD (4 cyl)

When I hold in the start button more than a second or two,there's a rattling noise
and the bike won't turn over

I replaced springs, spring caps and rollers in the starter clutch and it's better
but not 100%

Any thoughts?

Have you got a good strong battery and tight electrical connections everywhere? The starter motor may be going in and out.

See number 12046 in the pic below? You should have replaced that gear also, chances are the surface the rollers ride on has been hammered (for want of a better word) and it now has chatter marks that are making the rollers slip.
