Default Need some advice.

Hi everyone. Ok so here we go....So I bought the bike (1982 305CSR b1) yesterday night for 400 bucks. Thought it was a good buy. I know never buy at night especially on Halloween night. Anywho....went to the guys house talk for a bit looked as close as i could at the bike seemed decent. The battery was dead in it so we had to jump the bike to get it started, fired right up, then died...after a bit it was idling like there was no problems. Took it for a test ride and everything passed. Paid the money, signed the papers and away I was. Made it to the corner and it died. Now it has no gas cap so i figured this was part of the trouble, stop by AutoZone to pickup a quick fix. Finally made it home after about 3 more deaths. Today i go down and get a new battery fuel filter and fuel line. As im working/cleanig it a bit today i notice the petcock is leaking fuel (any idea on a rebuild kit or replacement?),then there is fuel pouring out of the carb overflows. It idles fine when the choke is on and its cold then when it warms up it wont stay running (at least when it dies now i can just start the thing instead of jumping it every time). Thats all i can think of at the moment but ill keep everyone updated on my headache. Any ideas or advice on the situation would be greatly appreciated.

Pull the carbs and give them a thorough cleaning. Rebuild them or at minimum install new float valves. Rebuild or replace the petcock then see what problems it has.

Ok, now we are getting somewhere. I got it to where itll fire up no probs, idles fine and no more leaking. The issue now is that when ever i rev the motor or go to take it for a ride it sounds like it "bogs down". Any theories on the issue. And thanks for the tip on the carb and petcock, turns out all i had to do was bend down the pressure tabs on the petcock face plate.

Heres an idea for the petcock. If none of the o-rings or diaphrams are damaged, reassemble it after careful cleaning. Hold the diaphram up to a bright light to inspect for tiny holes. More often than not, a diaphram will leak simply because sedement has built up behind the diaphram no longer allowing it to seal. Another common mistake with petcock rebuilds and cleanings is incorrect reassembly.(pay close attention to the order and position of the internal parts,washers,o-rings,spring,etc.) Install a new inline fuel filter before filling the carbs! Using gasoline, rinse out any loose crap laying in the bottom of the tank .(while tank is removed) I use vasoline to lube o-rings and to lube the rubber boots for easier carb installation. Good Luck!

Could be getting too much fuel now/ running rich. If you run it up to where it's bogging then hit the kill switch and pull a spark plug and it's all black or wet then It's getting more fuel than it can burn.

This may lead to an upgrade of the electrical - coil/plugs.
