Some months ago I picked up a 78 KZ 650 SR that had been setting for about 15 years. The bike only has 8k on the clock, is all togather and very clean. Lots of little rust spots to clean up and some elbow grease on the paint surfaces to do but basically a very sound bike.
To make a long story short, I decided this week end to play around with it and see if it was even runable before starting the other things.
New plugs, oil and filter change, pulled the carbs and cleaned out 1/4 inch of varnish, new battery .....no fire....
Traced the wiring and found the clutch switch was bad and evidently the reason the bike had been parked. Direct wire the switch, and it turned over with the starter. Hooked up my remote fuel tank, a little starting fluid up the carbs, hit the button and she fired...........
My wife could not understand my sense of a day well spent.......very satisfy to have it actually running....now the real work of the restoration can begin, but it may have to wait until winter.....too nice outside not to be riding.
