If you are talking about the normally amber colored enamel coating on the copper wire windings, yes, it has been cooked. Even if it meters OK, the coating goes brittle when overheated and with a little vibration, will fail resulting in a winding short.
Is there any way to revive it, or do i need to replace it?
There is the possibility it could be re-wound, but it may be more cost effective just to replace.
ok thanks for the help I will just buy a new one.
