Default 1986 Ninja 1000

I have an '86 ZX1000, which is also known as a GPZ 1000 RX. I've checked online for the bike's specs and I've come across specs for a GPZ 1000RX and a GPZ 1000RX (reduced effect). The normal 1000 shows the bike as having 125 hp whereas the "reduced effect" version lists the bike at 100 hp. Is there any way I can tell which one I have?

The GPz1000RX is the European name for the North American Ninja 1000R. The Ninja name is pretty much exclusive to the North American market. The engine casing should still show "GPz" on it. The bike produces about 125hp wit a top speed of about 165mph. "The Worlds Fastest Production Bike". You have a Ninja1000R, since you live in the US. I think reduced effect bikes were only sold in Europe to comply with licensing regulations, engine cc's, and hp.

Here's a link for some history (European link):

And here are some photos of the two flavours

hey Mike.l LOVE that bike.l had one back in the 80`s, great mammories they were...Sadly there isn`t much info about them out there.l now have an 89 which supposedly is faster but feels about the same as far as ultimate top speed goes. l love the look of the 86 though but it was a bit too tall for me as l recall.A nice one with 13-k sold on the `bay recently for $1550.00 ..l would have bought it too had the seller been a bit closer.
