Default Tapping noise coming from left side of the motor

The inner pipe coming out on the left hand side of the motor runs colder than the others. I found this out when I sprayed the pipes with high temp black paint. The others baked the paint dry almost instantly, but the pipe in question took almost 5 seconds.
The right side exhaust gas comes out warmer than the left side when the bike first starts up in the morning. It doesn't seem to run crappy or anything, but it does have a tapping noise on the left side of the motor between 1900-3000 rpm. Once the bike has been ridden for a bit & the oil warms up, the tapping almost goes alway entirely. It hasn't let me set yet and I've put a good amount of miles on it already (coming up on a 1000 in 4 weeks time). Of course the motor does have 32,000 miles on it.

Any clues/ideas what it might be before my tear down on the motor this winter?

valve adjustments? just something i'm throwing out there... i have the same problem at the moment... like a clanking sound at the start of taking off, or at low revs... so far with the research i've done... it seems to be a valve problem... that's at least the clanking... in regards to the heating up of one side... i haven't the slightest clue... start on the easiest first... i would suggest on looking at the spark plug? maybe needs regapping?

I'm going to double check them, but I did previously gap them with a feeler gauge to make sure they were dead on. I also believe it's a valve problem, but it hasn't caused the bike to run hard or bog down. The plug from that cylinder doesn't show any oil or signs of being too rich on fuel.

Something ells to conceder is to re synchronize the carbs. If this hasn’t been done in a wile then its probable over do. My’n where out of sync bad. I made my own synchronizer out of a vacuum gage and a 4 hose, line control from a fish tank. Worked very well.

Can you post up some pics of your home made gauge?

I have no previous maintaince infor on the bike from the previous owner. Heck, I don't know if he ever lubed the chain at all. Most of the wearable items either have been or will soon be replaced so it's back to almost factory new condition.
