Determining model on KZ?

Hello, I just bought my first bike on 3/25/16 its a 1980 KZ440 6 speed that has been customized. I have the title which is clean but unfortunately the guy I bought it from said when he bought it, it wasn't running and just was a frame and engine. He replaced all the parts got it running etc. but I was hoping to find out the model number for the owners manual and parts that I do need. Just wondering what the proper way is to ID the model and basically how to do it.

Welcome to the forum, cool lookin 440! I wasn't aware Kawasaki installed 6-speed gearboxes in the 1980 KZ-440's...? Heres a list of VIN numbers. Your bike will have a VIN number on a white tag located on the neck of the frame, as well as stamped VIN in the neck. The engine will have it's own VIN located in the casting near the oil fill. The white manufacture date tag's often get painted over and sometimes removed. The stamp should be there, even if painted over and difficult to see... https://www.z1enterprises.com/store/model/kawasaki/singles-twins/kz440

CycleChaos.com is another place. it has frame & engine number info for a number of Kawasaki models.
Or Zedder.com, but there's only a limited number of models listed on the site for free. you have to buy the cd for the comprehensive info.

Thanks I knew it must be an A-1 from all the research ive been doing. Just confirmed it through the title, now I'm just working on getting it completed and ready for the road. The biggest issue I see at the moment is the battery and wire harness is basically completely corroded and the wire harness is not only frayed but the chopped up sections of random wire don't comfort me. LOL. I just poped the seat off and threw away a wire not connected to anything as well as taking the side blinkers off the rear which were only held on by zipties and not working anyway. Going to be fun getting it all road worthy
