Default Need info on 440 LTD Exhuast

What's up everyone? im really new here, and i have a question that i hope someone can help me with. i have a 1980 kawasaki kz 440 LTD. it runs great, is in very good condition, and has very few miles for its age. One thing i would like to make better on it is the sound of the exhuast. haha, the stock exhuast almost sounds like a lawnmower! so i was wondering if there was a way to give it a more deep defined sound to it, either by messing with it myself or by buying some new pipes. but the only problem is that i cant find anywhere that sells aftermarket exhuast for that year, and cc. can someone help me here? if so i would reallllyyyy appreciate it! thx alot guys! hope to hear from u soon.

Dennis Kirk should have some after market exhausts that should fit that model. I have a 1981 KZ440 and they should be the same mounting points. I was looking at DK a little while ago and they had exhausts then. Give them a try. I am also sure several others will chime in with Exhaust mods in a bit.

Bungie cord a ghetto blaster to the rear seat. Put in a tape of an Ironhead Sportster. Leave your exhaust stock, and don't venture down the path of tuning nightmares and poor running.

I agree with elr658, I just bought a 1983 KZ550 LTD, that's been sitting up for the past three years. After I get the carbs rebuilt, new tires on the front and back, get the brakes done, clean off the grime that has built up over the past three years, ect. ect. ect. I'll be replaceing the Header and pipes that some previous owner had put on there. After all it's a KZ440, not a Harley.

On the 440, what I mean by exhaust I should have actually said as Muffler. If the pipes are fine, replace the mufflers. As long as you clamp the new mufflers well the ones from Dennis Kirk should work just fine without re-tuning the 440. I know others on another board that have used them with no problems.

There are some "Dunstall" ish mufflers that...A. aren't too offensive and B. worked ok on my KZ400.
