    Default Fuel Leak

My 1984 KZ750L has a fuel leak in the petcock assembly. There is a white plastic gasket between the reserve/on switch and the bowl. The pic shows where there is a groove running between the gasket and the plastic.

I took it apart this morning and cleaned it but it still sprays fuel out of that groove when the bike is running. Does anyone know what would cause this?

Any help would be appreciated - Thanks

    Jeff

Default Fuel leak from petcock diaphragm groove, EX-500

I have an 1995 EX-500 with this exact same fuel leak coming from groove on the petcock diaphragm. (Great picture below.) I'll try the petcock rebuild kit, but why was the diaphragm designed with this groove? To flow gasoline in case of a leak? Or to intake air? Thanks.

With the two diaphragm design, there has to be some way to allow the spring and atmospheric pressure to close the fuel valve. It also acts as a relief between the two diaphragms.

I installed a new kit and it seemed to fix the problem.

I second that. I had a fuel leak coming from the groove on the petcock diaphragm. (EX500 Ninja.) Exactly as shown in the photos above. Replace the $12 petcock and you're done. Problem solved thanks to this post.
