If you have the mechanical drive it connects to a cable just under the left brake caliper and goes directly up to the speedometer. The cable has knurled cable nuts at each end just like a bicycle speedo. The ones on my 1981 KZ1000 and 1983 KZ550 look identical but I haven't checked part numbers.

Ill put my 2 cents in.... 3 Kzs a 78 650, 80 2 cyl 750 and an 82 1100 spectre. I agree with cold ankles, one as a spare is good, but I just got a Buell so Im switching between the spectre and the Buell...

KZRiders is a good website. I'm a member there as well.
One thing I've noticed about the KZ bikes, they have nice lines and are really good looking bikes. Not flashy or anything just good overall bikes..

I've been threatening to scan those pics ever since I got here.....So if YOU say to do it.....
J model/style KZ1000s have electric speedos EXCEPT for the KZ1000M CSR and the KZ1000P Police which use cable driven speedos. Use the drive for the kind of wheel you have. |
