As for the brakes on my KZ....they work real good !!! I had to do a panic stop tonight and though I coudn't tell you the distance that it took 'em to get me stopped from 40 mph, I can tell you that I had plenty of distance left over if I had needed it !!! Update on my parts hunt....I won the tank and duck tail that I was bidding on, now all that it is needed body parts wise is the side covers, but I can get reproduction ones of those if need be.

I did put my bike up for sale a few weeks ago just to see if I'd get any bites. I made up my mind I'd sell it if I got my price but I wasn't going much lower than I posted. I had two serious lookers and lots of calls. The serious guys ended up buying older bikes to fix up I think. I didn't really want to sell anyways

Thanks for coming out Skunkwurcx. I hope you're enjoying your new bike!
Mine will be torn down and rebuilt this winter. You'll have to pop over and see it when it's done.

Heya Jeff, will do. Yup, been ridin' it quite a bit....have to give equal time to the Vulcan though too..LoL. I'll be changing mine from the LTD style to the "A" style over the winter, I have gotten just about all the parts I need. So in a very very very small way, I can't wait for winter....can't believe I said that out loud...

Went for a ride with 2 other KZ650s this past weekend.
We rode around Orangeville, Fergus and Elora here in Southern ON., including the Hockley Valley Rd. which is a very popular riding road for motorcyclists. It was a great weekend for a ride. Some pix: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I have a 1982 Kawasaki 550-C ltd. I bought it used 18 months ago. Since then I've had one problem after another. I'm trying to restore it back to orignal condition. I'm having trouble with the engine and tranny. I have another engine same year and size. I wish to rebuild the 2nd engine but having hard time finding good parts. Most places want $$$$ for used parts not to mention what they want for "new" parts. Does anyone know where I might be able to find good parts for a resonable price??

77 KZ 650 B1 here - well, at least part of it. The bike in the background is my 82 GPz 1100 bastich, not sure if it qualifies as a KZ. Also a long time member of KZR, I see quite a few familiar names in this thread.

Nick,
Is the SR a 78 model year with 79(or drilled out) disks, or a 79 model with 78 sidecovers? And what type of seat is on the 78 C model? do you know? BTW, What is it with the blue and 650's? I have two of them that are blue also. lol [quote=rstnick;867521]Went for a ride with 2 other KZ650s this past weekend. I would say the SR is as it came. The build date was 8/78.
My buddies red '78 650 was the same as well. Not sure on it's build date. My '78 C has a seat on it I bought off ebay. It uses the stock pan, so must be a recovered one. Ron's C3 has the stock seat. Although it looked a little bloated. Mine does sit lower I noticed when we swapped. |
