Default Help 81 KZ1000 ltd fuel tank

    hi, new to forum.

I have a 81 KZ1000 LTD. couple days ago the vacuum fuel tap started to leak. I took it apart and the diaphragm is torn, and was leaking between the diaphragm and the nylon spacer that separates the 2 diaphragms. Well I went to order a rebuild kit and it does not look like they make one for this fuel tap. I ordered one that was close hoping it would work, but it did not.

question is, is there any other fuel taps that can swap on there? this one is held on my 2 6mm bolts, and has the oval filter that extends into the tank. Other option I was thinking about is a new tank, but there is nothing on ebay, except for police tanks. Will a police tank work? it has the fuel sender, does it mount the same? does it hold more (that would be nice).

    Thanks
    Scott

Check these links and decide which way to go. You can rebuild a petcock but I don't think the old ones are really worth rebuilding. I switched over to a manual petcock and have no regrets. Keep in mind that the vacuum petcock on your bike may have been switched out years ago, and how would you know? Will the next owner of elr658's 1000R know?

Cool, thanks. I will probaly go the pingle route, mostly because it's fun to say PINGLE, although I do like the auto tap, I guess I will just have to get back in the habit of switching it

Don't run out of fuel then. The Pingle has no reserve.

uhh, the one I ordered did, the only one that did not have reserve was the off-set tap for the gsxr's. I shal see today if the part comes in.

Maybe there's different versions. I've just heard of the 3 outlet tap for the H2 that has no reserve.

yes, mine does have a reserve on it. I have to enlarge the hole on in the tank a bit for it to fit, I pretty much got the universal tap with the 44mm adapter plate. Pretty nice fuel tap, although I wish it had detentes for off/reserve/on. It might be a little tricky finding reserve doing 80 on the freeway with winter gloves on.
