Without seeing the carbs this is difficult. All cyl. should be choked the same. Is there any reason to believe that someone tampered with the carbs? I used to work on these but, it's been along time ago----1980. Wish you had photos but the manual should be of help. Sorry.

Reposting from your previous thread:
I'm not sure whether anyone is still watching this thread or not but... I just checked the spare rack of carbs I bought for my 1982 KZ750 Spectre and the slides should NOT be hit by the choke butterflies. Each slide has a notch in it that keeps the butterflies from contacting them. I may be wrong but it sounds to me like the slides have been oriented incorrectly during a past rebuild. You might want to remove the top cap and make sure the rubber diaphram is facing the correct way. There should be a small "tab" which sticks out very slightly from the edge. This little "tab" should be facing the mixture screw that's on the throttle blade side of the carbs. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures to show you exactly what I'm talking about but things SHOULD be more clear once you take off the top cap and notice that the diaphram isn't completely round and neither is the groove the edge of the diaphram fits into. Best of luck! |

He has CV34 Keihin carbs. Two carbs on the side of the choke arm have the choke butterflies actuated directly. The other two (on the other side) are linked and the linking parts must be assembled correctly for the remote two butterlies to work with the directly actuated ones. Sounds like the slides are also not correctly oriented. If the tops are removed, you can see a groove that the slide diaphragm is set in and it must fit in the slot correctly to orient the slide position otherwise the slide cut out is not correctly oriented. Sounds like someone who didn't understand what they were doing disassembled/reassembled the set you bought.
