Default 1980 Kz750LTD carb rebuild question

Please excuse my newbieness , I took the carbs off, and I noticed that when the choke is pulled down, it pushed the slide, or as my repair manual calls it the throttle valve down, on only two of the cylinders, On the slides I noticed that there was a notch on them, that appears to be made to clear the choke butterflies. Two of the cylinders have the notch facing the choke butterflies, so the slides clear it and they do not move when the choke is on. The other two, do not have the notch facing the choke butterflies so when the choke is on it pushes the slide up on those two cylinders. Is this correct? it doesnt seem to me like it would be correct. Also where is a good place to buy rebuild kits. THis is the place that I was planning on buying them from.http://www.oldbikebarn.com/motorcycl...php?bike=KZ750

Also any tips when rebuilding them would be much appreciated

Thanks for the help!

Someone Plz help! this is holding me back from putting my bike together! the diagphrams on the top of the carbs have a notch that lines up, but it sets two of the slides at that weird angle so that the notch does not clear the butterfly valves, maybe if someone could post a pic of the slides, with the choke butterflies all the way open I will be able to tell if there are supposed to be two of the slides up

Maybe these pictues will help, in the first one the red arrows point out the slides that are pushed down when the choke is all the way off, and the butterflies are open, You can see that the other ones are not pushed down by the valves.

The next one you can kinda see the notch on the slide of the right one that is meant to clear the butterfly valve, and how the slide on the left isnt oriented so the notch is facing the butterfly valve, and hence it hits it:

Someone plz help!

when the choke valves are all the way open, like in the pictures, they are hitting two of the slides, causing the slides to move. The slides have notches in them, and two of them are oriented so that the notches clear the choke valves, and two are not. I was wondering if it was correct that the two slides don't have the notches oriented towards the valves. Basically is it right that the the two slides are pushed up by the choke valves when open

I have a GPz600 and the valve that you are talking about does not open unless you throttle up with the engine running. It has a needle on it if you lift it up right? I think you are talking about the one with the red arrow pointing to it and when you throttle up the one that I circled opens up. You can not see the choke valve unless you open the carb up.

Actually on these keihin carbs, those throttle butterfly valves are on the other side which goes near the engine, the ones that are open and are in my pictures are the choke valves. so each carb has two of those valves, one on each side, one for choke, and one for throttle. When you have the choke all the way off, they sit open like that in the pictures.

Ok, my Dad has a CB750 and that is the way its carbs are. When you turn on the choke it closed all four of the slides and the butterfly valves open if you throttle up.

I'm not sure whether anyone is still watching this thread or not but... I just checked the spare rack of carbs I bought for my 1982 KZ750 Spectre and the slides should NOT be hit by the choke butterflies. Each slide has a notch in it that keeps the butterflies from contacting them. I may be wrong but it sounds to me like the slides have been oriented incorrectly during a past rebuild. You might want to remove the top cap and make sure the rubber diaphram is facing the correct way. There should be a small "tab" which sticks out very slightly from the edge. This little "tab" should be facing the mixture screw that's on the throttle blade side of the carbs. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures to show you exactly what I'm talking about but things SHOULD be more clear once you take off the top cap and notice that the diaphram isn't completely round and neither is the groove the edge of the diaphram fits into. Best of luck!
