Default Air Filter Cleaning

Just got my "new" used air box for my KZ1000M1 CSR, which came with a used filter that still looks pretty good. My question is how to clean the filter. I did a search, but came up empty.

The manual says to clean it in a "high flash-point solvent" bath and dry it with compressed air, but it doesn't go beyond that. This could possibly mean mineral spirits, but I wanted to ask you folks what you use.

The filter is a dry-element filter (looks like a light-brown paper-like material), and there's a foam gasket. This gasket is shot, though, but it looks like I can replace it with closed-cell foam insulator with adhesive backing of proper size. Appreciate any feedback or advice on this.

check with K&N or Amsoil, as they sell cleanable filters.

I recently cleaned my foam air filter. My manual also says to use a high flash point solvent. I went looking around and finally decide to use mineral spirits to clean it (I already had some at home). That seemed to work well for me. I made sure I dried it well, just in case the spirits didn't have a high enough flash point.

If you arent dying to have tuning problems, go to your friendly local Kawasaki dealer and order a new paper air filter. Then install it and be happy.

Default Buy a New!

You got it, ELR, that's exactly what I'll do. Who invented the copper thread? Answer: Two Scotsmen fighting over a penny...

One can only take frugality so far and it becomes foolishness. At 9 dollars and change, it ain't worth it.
