You must be talking about a complete headlight assembly....not just the bulb. I bought a replacement headlamp for my KZ650 from Z1 Enterprises for about $7.50 plus shipping. Their headlight assemblies for a kz650 run a little less than $50...

Are you SURE they wanted 120.00 for just the bulb? The bulb is a standard round headlight that can be picked up for about 9.95 at EVERY parts house in America.

I swapped my sealed beam bulb for a later model (1983) light that uses an H-4 bulb. With a SilverStar bulb I have no problems seeing at night.

Halogen conversion kits are made for the KZ model bikes, usually in the $20 range. They take the H4 bulbs which are ~$7 to replace, and you can use the Silver Stars as mention above.

Default replacement bulb

I've been going through the same hassle for my 1979 LTD. The goof at Roseville Cycle Center tells me that they can get me the original Kawasaki bulb (he's looking this up on a micro-fische style screen), its about 3 days away and costs over $90.00. And yes, that's for the BULB only. In looking online, at Z1 and a few other places, it looks like the automotive H6024 (Sylvania part number) 7" headlamp that fits in any 2 headlight musclecar, truck etc. will fit in my bike. Any confirmation on this? I had sealed beam Silverstars in an old Mustang and loved them!

From what I've heard, the Sylvania ones are much brighter, but don't last very long.

JC Whitney has a 7" bulb lens that takes an H4 bulb for about $18 with a halogen bulb. Unfortunately, their website now says 3 to 4 weeks for delivery. On another forum it was said that there are a special order item now.

They do have another item with a Xeon blue bulb, but for $45! It's in stock, though.

Supposedly, there is a "powersports" variety of the bulbs that are supposed to be more rugged than their car variety counterparts.

You can get the lens and H4 bulb on ebay for 25 or a little less if all else fails.

Point me toward an auction, please! I tried looking for them a couple of weeks ago and I didn't find anything I wanted. I thought the pricing was outrageous of what I did find.

Here's a stock light and ring: ebay $10

Don't see any of the halogens for $20. They used to be on all the time.

Just got a new H4 + lens for mine this year and there were several sellers at that time. I'll try to look up the sellers ID and post it for you in case you want to contact them.

I found this Autopal on eBay which is Euro spec, not DOT, although I'm not sure anyone would care on a single head lighted motorcycle. The brand seems reputable judging by Web comments.

Update: I put in a bid on it, so we shall see.

I have H6054's in all of my KZ's(currently 11 of them) and my daily rider(77 650D) has had the same H6054 for over 2 years and 4500 miles.

There are plenty of 7" round sealed beam halogens available for low price (like under $20) that are drop ins to any standard headlight assembly that is designed for the usual 35/55W round lamp. The difference is the halogen sealed neam lights put out about 3X as much light as the stock "bulb type" lamps that came in the old KZ's. Believe me, chuck the old style lamps and get a new halogen and you won't believe how much more light it puts out.
