Default 1967 C2SS Roadrunner 120cc

Hello all
I'm a newbie to the forum.

I'm doing a restoration on a 1967 Roadrunner C2SS (120cc). It's in rough shape so if you have tips feel free.

One stumbling block I have already is the kawasaki.com site doesn't list an OS piston and rings, so I don't really know what to do there. I've taken the cyc block off and the piston and the cyclinder wall have some "cooking", so I do need to do something.

Does anyone know an expert that could help me determine if it's possible to use a piston and rings from another Kawi model (say from a KE125) as a replacement?

Just searched ebay. Found a set of 0020 rings for it. Keep your eyes open and I'm sure that you'll find a piston there as well. An ebay account is a must when you own an old Kawasaki.

I did see those, so I went to the kawasaki site to get the part number for the OS piston but here wasn't a listing. If there's OS rings then there must be an OS piston right? So I guess, like you say, I just need to "keep my eyes open".

There'e most likely 2 oversizes. 0020 and 0040.

Are there sources out there besides ebay I should be trying for an OS piston and rings? I've seen OS rings available for days now, but nothing on a piston on ebay, standard piston only.

I got a line on some parts from Vintagekawasaki.com. They seem to be good folks there. Having said that, I haven't received any of the parts I've ordered yet. Wait and see.

Aside from that, has anyone seen a picture of a blue C2SS out there? The model I have is blue (actually more of a rust colour now), but the only pictures I've seen on the net are red and silver....no blue. If you got em, post em.

I managed to source a .040 OS piston and some rings for the C2SS. So I'll be going to the machine shop to get a bore done next week. The Kawasaki Service Manual has some pretty good instruction for measuring the tolerances after boring and honing.

Are there any experts out there that have an opinion about other things I should be looking at? Say carb jets, or timing?

Hey Hick, anything in that shop manual of yours?

carb jets ? leave it stock,it shouldn`t need different jets. You`re adding a small amount of displacement with the overbore and at most you might raise the slide needle one notch and adjust the idle screw as normal.Your manual should specify timing and if not go off the marks on the mag.lf you`re at high altitude advance the timing 5 degrees over stock spec

The current bore is standard.

I personally wouldn't skip a bore. The only exception would be if the cylinder was damaged and 2 O.S's was required to fix it. It's like going to bed being 39 and waking up being 50 years old

I probably could have gotten away with a 0.020 OS but the cylinder has some pretty deep grooves in it, so I figured I'd take the largest I could find. I tried taking a picture to show you but it doesn't do the grooves any justice.

Aside from having nowhere to go after a 0.040 OS bore, what other disadvantages are there?

I wouldn't worry about skipping an OS, as long as the machine shop doing it UNDERSTANDS you are skipping a size!

After all, it is not like you will be riding it enough to wear the overhaul out!

As for adjustments after the OS, I would not worry about them, either. The tiny amount of extra displacement should not require a change the settings.

Sometimes we tend to overthink a project. I know I am guilty!

None Just make sure that you give it enough fuel running it in. You don't want to seize after half an hour on 2nd over. Better a tad rich than too lean.

Hey
I just got my bore back from the machine shop and the engine is ready to assemble.

I'm looking around for several parts. Ebay has some hits from time to time, but it's mostly junk. If anyone knows where I can pick up the following parts let me know:
muffler
front end complete
gear shift
chain cover
oil tank
side covers

ebbaayy search for C2SS chain guard: Kawasaki Roadrunner 120 c2ss c2tr Chain Cover Guard

I have no idea if that's the correct part for your bike. I'll guess that it isn't.
You could search there for C2SS, then ask the sellers if they've got the chain guard.
