Back home and do not have to go to work until the 22nd of June. I have a case of beer and an R1 with my name on it.

So all the handle bars and triple trees, and fork tubes etc. are sand blasted. Paint this week. I sent the tank and the rest of the body pieces to a buddy for paint. $100 later I have the decals also. It's amazing how I can justify spending money! I have to much going at once. So I decided that I won't spend any money or take anything else apart until the front end is back together. I'll make sure all the electrical works and the engine fires then I'll take a weekend for the carbs.
Any suggestions for parts for me to buy for the carbs before I tear into them. I have K&L carb rebuild kits 4(ea) -link= Carburetor Rebuild Kit ZX750 KZ750 1982-85 ----------- from Z1 Enterprises, Inc.

Great! Took off the exhaust system today. The years were not good too it. The manifold on the right side was obviously cobbled together. Welds where clamps should be. I'll have to cut half of it off and weld in pieces. Not much out there for 4 into two systems, The manifold is still available. I just like the look of the original pipes. The big exhaust manf. (headers) have ignored the 750. R1 owners what pipes do you have.

I have managed to salvage my original pipes...occasionally you see aftermarket pipes on eBay...MAC (new) still appear, as do Kerker (rarely, but they still appear). Be advised that the KZ650 headers work on the 750R1, except that you might have to fabricate an exhaust can holder/hanger. Original pipes still appear on eBay but they are usually in fairly ratty shape...what makes you think the R1 manifolds are still available? I checked Kawasaki and they have been canceled

Michael.

Bike Bandit. Part #39178 for $305. I found it for $270 on another web site but I can't remember which one. I've decided to weld. It's cheap and if I don't like it I can just get the pipes anyway. By the way. Bike bandit has the mufflers also!

Ah...the mystery is solved! A word to the wise...Bike Bandit lists all parts and prices and will allow you to order those parts...after a bit of a delay, they will get back to you and tell you those parts are out-of-stock. If you check on the www.kawasaki.com site (which is the Kawasaki parent site and where Bike Bandit gets their parts) you can check on the availability of any Kawasaki part...the site will tell you if the part is available, has been canceled, is in short supply, or has a substitution part number. It is a trick to get to learn but Kawasaki encourages you to use it, take that info to a Kawasaki dealer and then order those parts through that dealer. This on-line Kawasaki site shows that manifold as being canceled.

McDroid I believe this is why forums were created. I did find it hard to believe that the pipes would still be available. Update. The engine is out. I have an appointment with a walk in bead blaster and then off to the powder coaters with the frame. I'll be labeling and cleaning parts for a good week I think. I labeled every wire and zip lock bagged all the hardware and little pieces. While rebuilding the wheel I found the sprocket holder casting is cracked. Stamped on the holder is the part number "1021" Every part source on the web labels the GPz sprocket holder as "1047" only three bikes have the "1047" number(KZ700 A1, KZ750 L3, and the R1) Would you be willing to look at your sprocket casting and see if it is labeled "1021" . Please anyone else willing I would appreciate it. My bet is that Kawasaki used the same sprocket casting all around the KZ community and just changed the sprocket for different gearing, hence a different assembly number. A guy on ebay has exactly what I want(I think) Item 220385481146

Congrats on getting your 750 back. I really like mine, I commute to work on it almost every day!

Mine is labeled 1021 also...I suspect it is actually a date code rather than a part number...

I would agree with you if the part number for kz750H and the kz750E was something other than 42033-1021 I wish you had an H or a E so I could be sure that the 1021 would work for me. Thanks for looking at least I know someone didn't just throw some odd sprocket on the bike during a haphazard rebuild. I have found some funky repairs on the bike!

Hey, thanks a lot. I'm in the middle of getting a few things done to it. I installed a jet kit, K&N individual filters, and new plug wires. In this extreeeeemely low mechanical process the GPz somehow managed to develop a short. I suspect I bumpes some wire when taking the carbs off and the 27 year old copper may have flexxed beyond its now brittle capacity. I'll be attempting to chase this short tomorrow...not looking forward to that.
Also, had mounting plates welded to the frame for ZRX passenger foot-pegs...this mod is going to allow me to do some mild-modifications to the foot-controls as well as route the Kerker meg in a very ZRX-ish fashion. Anyway, I'll post pics soon as the ZRX-peg-thing was easy enough, I just need to get the pics off the camera...and it's laaaaaaate!

Yeah, I like 'em more than the 550 b/c the fairing on the 550 was a bit different. The plan at this point is to possibly return the bodywork back to an original-ish Red with black/white stripes. I had an '82 also, bought it blown up and kept some cool parts...I'm down to the bodywork and frame...but it's a good rare 'un to have (in my book).

I think the '1021' thing is a coincidence. My bike is completely original. Additionally, the only place on your bike that has part numbers (complete part numbers) is the backside of your side covers and they are molded into the surface.

I may have one for you over winter; if you can wait that long...now, can I have my thread back? Just kidding, man! I'm not that guy, feel free to post away, maybe we can call it the KZ750R-1 thread...I'm cool with anything being posted on this thread...keeps it alive, eh?

The reason that I might have one for you over winter is b/c I might throw some 17"s on mine...don't hold your breath. Here is an email address if you wanna keep in touch with me: badkawkr@yahoo.com

GOOD NEWS: Found the electrical problem on my bike and got it handled. Now, I've just got to run the fuel line and kick the tires and light the fires. All the while attempting to finish my Summer Bucket List...wish me luck.

-KR

I'll get pics up as soon as I can...

Default Hello fellow R1 owners...

Hello guys, There is one reason why I love my '82 GPZ750, you don't see many of them anywhere. I was just at the huge swap meet at the Mid Ohio Vintage Days swap meet and I had the only '82 GPZ 750 there, hell I couldn't even find any parts for one!!

Anyway, here is my baby:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Picture005.jpg

Still buttoning up a few things to get it back on the road, but I'm very close. I'm hoping to have it ready and running for the White Rose swap meet show(Jefferson PA)held by the VJMC. If you live near and are planning to attend, stop by the J&B Moto tent and say hi...
