Hey Guys, what are you using for rear shocks! I was toying with the idea of progressives, but they are so damn expensive! I found a company called "aftershocks" that rebuild shocks, so I could keep the originals. What do you have on your GPz 750,and where can I get them. I just installed the swing arm and this shock thing is holding me up!
Thanks for your input! Oh yea!!! I still owe you guy Pics of the body parts and frame! |

Zephyr shocks. They pop up occassionally on eBay; range $50+/-. They are piggy back resevior shocks and they look really trick...even though they're not. Plus they are a bit taller than the stock shocks (quickens steering) and they work waaaay better than stock.

Got Progressives on my '82 750. I can't say that I like them a whole lot. Very harsh (even on the softest spring setting), little to no damping no matter where the clickers are, which inspires minimal confidence in the corners unless it is billiard table smooth. If you are going to sport ride the bike at all, do not skimp here. Works or Ohlins are your friends.

My bike was the tool in a fraud scheme; guy was able to convince a whole-sale car dealer that it was a bona-fide ELR. Basically, the car whole-saler was an acquaintance of mine and after he bought it he asked me to come see it...this is when he found out that it was a 750 GPz and not an ELR. To us it's obvious, but this kid had done some pretty creative paperwork slight-of-hand and got away with one. To my knowledge the kid made a clean get-away with his cash. The bike sat for a few years before I snaked it away. But, I'm pretty sure that the finish is factory. -KR

Nice 750 Bad Kaw!
That's the look I'm looking for. Not with the 650, but I'd like to get a GPz, 1100R or ELR one day. Z1R and a MKII would be nice as well. LOL Last edited by rstnick : 08-31-2009 at 12:40 PM. |

Ha! Thanks buddy! Yeah, you aren't going to find any disagreements with me!
On my sled: if you look at it, the color is off a couple shades...and the paint is getting rough, too. As soon as I get the ignition triggers worked out it'll be the new daily driver as other projects get full 'project' status. At some point I'm thinking about going back to the original (or original-ish) red/black/white pattern...but by then I'll probably have some 17"s on it and better forks and swingarm...tee-hee-hee...can't leave well-enough alone! Yeah, your 650 is juuuuuuuust about right on the money: mad-max-ish, but not totally ... Rickman/Dunstall/Martin-ish, but not totally raced-out, like I said just about perfect...probably about time to leave it alone and focus your creative energy on a different bike, eh? Love your 650! -KR

Ha! Yeah, my neighbors went, they never miss it. I live up in Ellis, next to Hays. Do you ever get over to Cassoday on the first Sunday for the motorcycle meet? I used to go every time; but haven't been able to make it in the last year or so. Good to have you here.
Check your PMs. -KR

i still have yet to go to the cassoday meet. i did the whole "dirt road only" dual sport thing for a few months on a 09 KLR, and it was just a pain to hit the highway on. after i get this up to my standards ill for sure be there a few times a year.
