Recent purchase is trashing my pant legs
Gasket / moon leak front left. Have been out to Z1 and can't find the one piece "rubber" gasket with half moons which is on bike now. Does this type gasket still exist? Seems like paper with moons would be more suspect to leaking And if seperate, do I rtv moons top and buttom during install? |

You can still get new ones. If yours are hardened then replace them. You could use some rtv gasket maker while you wait on new ones to arrive. The trick to that is getting any oil residue off both surfaces and while it make look clean it is not.
This what you are looking for? Cam end plugs (4) Z1 KZ900 KZ1000 OEM: 92066-017 from Z1 Enterprises, Inc. Valve Cover Gasket - KZ1000 (79-80) OEM: 11009-1050 from Z1 Enterprises, Inc. Last edited by StarGate : 05-15-2008 at 09:59 AM. |

Thanks SG... I will probably buy this week.
But my existing gasket is a one piece rubber with end caps molded to gasket and was asking if that style gasket 1. Still Exists 2. Is it prefered and 3. Any better or worse then fiber with seperate endcaps. Thanks for the links.

Based on my browsing of this site and the amount of info I have learned from tons of your posts SG, I feel like I have probably missed something. Will go home and pull completely off to check out.
Thanks

elr658 correctly suggested that I thoroughly clean the gasket surfaces of the head and the valve cover with acetone prior to installing the new valve cover gasket. He also made it very clear that "The only place that RTV is used on a Kawasaki was the cam end caps." Lightly schmeeeer RTV on the new end cap when you install them. I followed his suggestions to the "T" I have no leaks.
Someone suggested that now is the time to check your valve clearances. I do not know if you have the under bucket shim or the above bucket ship but it would be a good idea to get the feeler gauge out to see where you stand. The overwhelming consensus is to set them loose. I was and still am absolutly amazed at what properly adjusted valves will produce. Hang On dearly!
