I've got a 1982 KZ305-B1, just bought her. 26,000 miles, always garaged, runs great. However, she's leaking oil out of the right side exhaust? It's right at where the pipe widens out, where there's a pressure release hole (they're on both pipes on both sides, so I'm assuming they're stock like that.) Where would this leak be coming from? I'm pretty mechanically inclined - however, brand spankin new to bikes. I'm planning on looking into it more on Saturday - but some guided work is always better than just going for it. Any feedback/educated guesses are much appreciated! Thank you!

yup to the T. alright, i'll check the leak again tomorrow - just at a glance i didn't see any run down from the top of the pipe. anyways, what would i have to replace on the clutch cover if thats leaking? or does it just depend on what kinda leak it is?

Probably just the gasket on that large roundish cover on the right side of the engine. If you can't tell for sure where the oil is coming from or have doubts. Wipe/wash the area good then start the bike and let it run till you see a drop hit the floor. Now shut it off and take a handful of baby powder and while holding your had close to the area in question blow the powder toward the area. A compressor and blower works best but the idea is to dust the area with powder. The leak trail becomes very visible when you do this as the powder dust sticks to a thin oil film like it was glue.

It's not coming from the large roundish cover on the right side. I went to go start it up yesterday morning, and let her run for about five minutes. I come back out to the garage, and there's a puddle of semi-clear liquid under the bike. It's not only under the original hole in the exhaust, but now also more towards the center of the bike. I've decided it has to be a rundown that's just gotten worse - I just can't figure out where it's coming from. The placement of the rundown is just weird. I took some pictures last night, I'll post them on here in a few hours once I go get them developed. I know it's one of those problems you can't really know what it is unless you look at it and feel it, but hey I can always. I REALLY don't wanna take it to a shop - I'm anti-other people touching my bike.
Thanks guys.

I don't know if this picture or link will work, here goes:
Looking at the bottom of the engine, labeled "lower case" in the picture, you will see a round disc with a bolt head in the middle. This is where your oil filter resides. This disc should have an o-ring. #671 in the pic below. ![]() If it does not then you get a leak. Or maybe the bolt is loose, throw a wrench on it.

I hate those O-rings. They sit in there very loosely and if you're not careful it gets pinched and cut when putting the filter back in. I had to reuse an old one last year as I cut one while replacing the filter.

Actually, this is better than an oil change. When Harley first shifted over to a sump system from the previous total loss system, Indian advertisements dissed Harley for reusing dirty and "used" oil. In contrast, Indian's total loss sytem ensured that the oil was always "fresh."

haha wow a lot of feedback! whether it be on subect or not! i'll give that a check tomorrow. i've heard things about the gaskets on this bike, so it wouldn't surprise me. oh and the fluid started out pure oil, but the other day it seemed more watered down? I have no idea what to make of this, to be honest. I took some pretty detailed pics of the liquid and where it's coming from. I'll post those tomorrow when I pick them up. Tight? TIGHT!
