I recently purchased a well used 86 ninja 1000 and was wondering if the 630 chain would work with the stock sprockets and is there any good places to get parts for it. I also need a set of front rotors... can anyone point me towards somewhere that wont tack on an additional 50% because I drive a ninja. Seems like if the shops around here see that youre riding a sportbike they like to gouge you if they can.
Oh..and any good sites to order parts form would be nice. Cheers... Keep the shiney side up! |

The zx1000-a1-2 has a weird 632 chain and is very expensive to replace (over $400 at b!ke band!t.) so seeing as the 630 is the same pitch (and around $100) i was wondering if any other zx1000 owners had made the switch.
I cant see where any other model owners have this prob... |

I just finished converting my zx to a 530 chain and sprocket setup. You can order a 1988-90 zx10 front sprocket 530 conversion and bolt it on. Order the same for the rear but you have to drill out the bolt holes to match the holes on the old 632 and bolt it on. Drill the holes on a drill press and don't rush it!!I bought a Hayabusa 530 chain and removed 1 link to fit. presto you're running a 530 chain setup! Buy a 17 tooth front and a 47 tooth rear and you'll have factory gearing.

Heres another question for you guys...
I just got this bike (25000 miles) so Im not sure of the maintanence history. Now I have flushed the old oil and all the other fluids and have noticed that the engine oil is black again after about a hundred miles. Is this neglect or what!!! I have also noticed a bit of condensation in the oil cap and can see a film of white stuff on the sight glass. Should I be concerned about this white crap and look for a new cylinder head gasket or ride on and pay no mind. Weathers so cold up here I havent had a descent ride longer than a half hour at a time. but I have gotten the temp up to where you would think itll burn off the condensation. any thoughts??? |

Doesn't take long for the oil to get dark normally. Some of it is wear and some is the residual oil left in the engine when you drain them. It shows up faster if you don't change the filter to and if you have an oil cooler that oil doesn't get drained and mixes with the new oil. I've heard other riders talk about condensation in the oil if you ride when it's cold but that burns off when you get the oil hot enough. Maybe you need to take longer rides or just ignore it till warm weather as long as the oil isn't showing signs of excess water. Not sure about the white stuff, pics might help.
Not sure what the following statement is pertaining to. Did I miss something you posted earlier? |

Thats probably whats going on...condensation... but Ive read on other websites that there was an issue with earlier zx900 and zx1000 engines with not enough oil to the #3 conn. rod. Obviously the contributors to the other sites are not a credible as the ones here...(wink, Nod)..
I certainly wont be racing and doing wheelies on the freeway with this one either...but its tempting....(GRIN)... Thanks guys!!! |

Quick update guys...
I found out that a 630 conversion kit does exist and sunstar sells the fr and rear sprockets in a 630 size... the chain is available anywhere for about a hundred and expect to pay another hundred for the sprockets. There you go.... brand new chain and sprockets for about 230 dollars. Cheers!! Oh... and the latest price on the b!keband!t site for a 632 replacement chain in 552 dollars! |
