Default 82 KZ Question

My KZ550 did something recently that I have not read a thread about yet. If I stand on the right side to check the oil in the site window. I grab the grip to tilt the bike towards me to level out the oil in the window, maybe I tilt it a little farther right than center. When I do this, about an ounce or two of gas spills out of the drain tube coming from one of the float bowls. I have checked all the drain screws, they seem to be tight. It only does this after it has been setting awhile. Does any one know what the deal is with that?

Your float height is wrong. Have you done anything with the carbs lately?

No, I just bought the bike about a month ago. I ran some seafoam through the gas, that's about it. Is it a easy fix to adjust the float height?

To adjust the float height you bend the little tang on the float. Look at the float and where it contacts the needle. Thats the tang you bend up or down to adjust the height. But you need to know what the float height is supposed to be before you start doing any adjustments. Do you have a service manual?

Hang on a sec...Rappy, are you talking about the small nipples on the bottoms of the fuel bowls? If that's the case, then a new o-ring on the offending drain screw will most likely fix you right up. Worked for me when I had a similar problem, anyway.

HTH,
Pat

Does the motorcycle have a centerstand?
If so, check the oil w the bike level & on the centerstand.
It sounds like something is going on w a float - it could be sticking or maybe the height is out of spec. Do the service fuel level check using clear tubing to verify the fuel level. When setting the floats, I flex the tang instead of bending it - otherwise it could end up getting mangled. JMK.
