Default is it ok to use automotive SAE 10-40 motor oil in Kawasaki motorcycle engines

will using automotive SAE 10-40 motor oil cause any problems in a 76 Kawasaki KZ 900 and 79 Kawasaki KZ 1000 model ST..

or isn't automotive SAE 10-40 motor oil made for using in motorcycle engines..

My dealer suggests mineral oil, of which Kawi oil is. Myself, I'd rather not save the 2 or 3 dollars, and lay awake wondering... ANY clean oil is better than NO, or DIRTY oil though, so put it in for now if that's the question, and wait for more & better answers than this one if you're looking about sticking with auto oil long term.

When in doubt, bottom line is you can either WONDER, or be SURE... with Kawi mineral oil you're sure...

Anything that has friction modifiers will damage your clutch. Use m/c specific oil or pm RichLockyer for m/c safe oil that you can buy that won't damage your clutches.

My Clymer manual for my 86 ZX6 says: SAE 10W40, 10W50, 20W50 (what I use) rated SE or SF

I also use Castrol GTX in the 600R 20w50...works great for me. Good price, too.

Goody! An oil thread.

So far I've seen good results with Castrol Act-Evo 10W40. But then I don't ride many miles or on long rides.
