Default Z1R questions

Hello all,

Just started the teardown of my 78 Z1R and I have a couple of questions.

How do I tell what carbs i actually have other than measuring them, I have attached a picture if it helps.

I am planning on putting on a V&H header how big of a carb can I go, this will be a Sunday drive but very fast

Does any other model have the 28mm's, I was looking at a wrecked 76 900cc it seemed through my research to have the same carbs

If anyone can give me a picture of the R/H wiring under the side cover it would be much appreciated as this bike has been through a few hands

Thanks in Advance

Mark

You can maybe ask at Vintage Bike Tech Forum about the carbs. He runs a carb rebuild service and might have time to answer your question.

If the carbs on your bike are original, then they should be VM28SS. According to my book, the 76 had VM26SS. The are a couple models in 79 that also had the 28's. 73 thru 75 used VM28SC. Not sure what the difference is between S and C.

Bat, the 73-75 carbs will foul the tank petcock on the newer bike. The older carbs are difficult to keep synched and are generally poo. The 28s or 26s,(76 to 80) are functionally interchangeable. (some have accelerator pumps)

Got one of THOSE wobblers in my past, too a 1978. Still miss it 25 years later.

Even a blind squirrel (Me) finds a nut once in a while.
