I don't think DOT 5 was a spec. back in 1982.
No gains by using the higher spec., use what is specified on the fluid rez. cap.

Just out of curiosity what makes you think that you need to rebuild the front master cylinder ? have you tried just bleeding the brakes ? what are the symptoms your having with your brakes ? not grabbing hard enough ? not grabbing at all ? seized on the rotor ? just putting that out their because i had brake issues and thought i had to rebuild the master but all i had to do was flush and bleed.

If the brake fluid is dark, or has sludge in it, the only way to properly restore the system is to do a complete system teardown - master, calipers and replace the lines. The brake system will accumulate sludge on the inside unless the fluid has been changed regularly throughout the life of the bike and the only way to get the system properly clean is to do a full tear down. Pumping fluid through is false security - and residue inside the system will quickly contaminate your clean fluid.

Best to do the job right the first time.
