Models and Manuals and Tires, Oh My!!

OK, maybe a little dramatic, but. . .

In my ongoing quest, I have run into 3 questions that I'm hoping are easy and simple. .

1) Models - I have an '80 KZ1000 LTD B4. However, I have seen at least 3 different model names associated with the KZ1000 - KZ1000, KZ1000 Classic, & KZ1000 LTD. There may be more. Is the only difference the model year, or were there significant differences between them?

2) Manuals - Clymer? Haynes? Another printer? IMHO, manuals are indispensible, and I want to pick up the best I can for this project.

3) Tires - Not too long ago, I saw where you could tell the manufactured date of a tire by reading the stamped code on the tire. Does anyone know where/how that works? Seems like I found a table with the info on it, but of course, I don't recall now. . .

This forum has been a huge help so far, and I've only been reading it for a couple of days. Good to see and very much appreciated!!!

#1 Confusion about model and engine types is normal. The only way I've been able to figure out what is what is with a factory repair manual.

#3 Parts For Your Harley®, Honda Motorcycle Parts - J&P*Cycles® has tire info on the website.

KZ1000B LTD
KZ1000C Police
KZ1000D Z-1R
This is true for the heavy crank 1978 style motor.

If it has the clean air system on the valve cover it is a Mark II. 1979-1980
A,B,C,D are the same
KZ1000E is the shaft
KZ1000F is the European MK II with Fuel Injection
KZ1000G is the Classic (LTD with fuel injection)

1981 starts the J models J,Standard
K LTD,
M CSR
P Police
R Replica
