Default Debaffeling

Ok this is just an "IDEA" and I'm really skittish bout actually doing this type of "mod". But I was wondering has anyone taken the "guts" out of thier exhaust from a Kaw. 440 LTD? And If they have what does it sound like? I would guess it would be insanely loud but I really hate the irritating "Wheee" sound of a dirtbike. I was told that accel would be a little better. But I really like the deep sound of pipes and wondered if it sounded like that.

It'll be a little louder, a little deeper, but still not a "rumble." If it sounds like "wheeeeeee" now, it'll probably sound like "WOOOOOO" with the baffles out.

I pulled the crossover tube on an inline twin 400 Suzuki. Bike was irritatingly loud, and it had this awful plopping sound. Probably has something to do with the backpressure wave. If you do go this route, you need to put some sort of minimal restriction in the tube to avoid the HUGE hole in low and mid range power you're going to get. Hopefully that'll prevent the plopping sound as well.

So what ur saying is that If I takes the guts out of my pipes, I may be doing more harm than good. In plain trading Headaches in for the sake of sound.

+1 stock pipes sound like garbage I know it sucks but your engine will thank you if you have the patience to save up for a decent after market exhaust they're not to crazy expensive and make the bike sound much much better. Now of course that is just in my opinion some people might actually like the high pitched whistling fart noises of the stock mufflers lol

Thanks for the advice...any good links to find them for our "Vintage" Cruisers? I really don't "hate" the sound of my bike, but would like it to at least sound "respectable".

If you go to the JC Whitney motorcycle parts website and put "dunstall" into the search box, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Glad I could help.

Please post some pix when you're done, it will be interesting to see how the very long Dunstalls fit the overall flow of your bike's lines.

Also, since they come with removable baffles, you can play with the amount of packing material to adjust sound quality/level. The fire resistant house insulation material you can find at your local home store is a cheaper substitute for expensive specialty packing material you find at bike shops. Especially if you're going to trial-and-error with different amounts of packing.
