Default carb overflow pipe leaking

I searched, and found this thread (this is really a great site):

http://www.kawasakimotorcycle.org/fo...low-tubes.html

I want a bit of advice from a "second opinion" though - I have one carb that is definately leaking via the overflow tube as in the thread above - I can fill the bowl halfway with fuel (when it is off the carb), and it slowly drips out the overflow.

Now the advice: will JB weld work as suggested in the link and be impervious to fuel? Have others had this kind of leak and repaired it in a similar way?

Thanks!

I used JB Weld on a car gas tank years ago. Something bounced up under the car and punched about a 1/8" hole. It never leaked for the few years I owned it after that. If use of JB Weld concerns you there are similar products specifically made for fuel tank repair. Just be certain to give your product of choice full curing time.

Just a recomendation but i would try cleaning your float needles specificly the one that you think is leaking before you go and JB weld stuff. unless of course I'm missing something here but i didn't see you say that there was cracks in your carb bowls..... if it leaks from the overflow chances are that its just a stubborn float needle that needs some TLC

Yeah, even with the bowl removed, and filled halfway with fuel on the bench, it drips from the overflow. It took a while to figure this out, and I first suspected the float valve.

Thanks for the advice, though. I have done a throrough carb disassembly and clean (soaked, blown out, etc.).

Plain old tin/lead 50/50 solder with flux, using an electric iron?

Acid core flux would work best but yes. Just be careful to not flow too much solder. You might plug the tube.

Nice! I'll try that this weekend with some small electronics-type flux-core solder.

Thanks for the help!
