Default New Keys

HI all,

I am looking at an old 78 Z1R but the person has lost the keys, is there someway to have a new one cut with the serial number, vin number? Any recommendations would be appreciated,

Thanks in advance

If you have no key to use as a master to cut from, the only recourse is to replace the ignition switch with a new one. Unfortunatly the other lock will need changing also(tank, helmet locks, and seat lock). Try the local dealer for a new set of locks first.

There are several places on the net that supposedly can cut new keys using the key number but want $25.00 each for a key.

if one of the helmet locks are open there should be a key number on it u might need to take the lock of to get a better look or u can take off the seat lock thats where i got my key # from it should be stamped in the side. ( if this guy will let u do any of this that is ) and if you cannot do any of the above Mfolks suggestion is the other way to go. order a new ignition and deal with no helmet locks or seat lock. gass tank should be fine though u can usually juts use any key that fits for the stock tank cover.

Is the bike able to be started, so you know how it runs. Has a clean title for it. You should be able to find a replacement switch that would work or at least modify, if a key can't be made for it.

If you get the bike just take the ignition to a good locksmith. He can make a key to fit. A little pricey but still cheaper than replacing all the locks.

Look for the key # beside the keyhole of either the Ignition or seat lock.
I can cut a key by the number. Wont cost you $25, just $10.
I'm also in Ontario.

This is correct, my locksmith is a god.....he will take the lock apart, use it to make the key.....but he said expect to pay $20 to $30.....which considering I didnt think was to bad.
