Default brake upgrades for 81 GPz1100

i have an 81 GPz1100 with completely shot brakes. this might be a good time to upgrade to something newer/better. anyone done any swaps to newer rear caliper or master, or newer front calipers? is it possible....the rear caliper mount looks pretty clunky compared to newer bikes.
the prices for new master cylinders are nuts....there has to be a better way.

you are much better off doing a complete front end swap than just the brakes. Something from a newer bike. Guy I know has a old suz GS1000 and just swaped some forks/wheels/brakes from a newer sport bike onto it. and it pretty much bolted up with little modification

I just installed a 04 250 Ninja rear master cylinder and it bolted right up. On my 84 GPZ750. Looking at what I was when I was shopping, I have little doubt that it would work for you. And it is a much better unit.

I have no doubt that more modern units can be found for the front. I would look at pictures on ebay and try to find someone to give you the bolt to bolt measurements.

    --Light bulb over head--

Brake pads have a fairly good cross reference setup. I'd start with a pad cross reference, see what that gives. I used that to get some EN450 rear pads for my bike for like $5.

I haven't personally looked to see what calipers would cross, but you have me wondering. I do know they need to be tokico, and I can see alot of the period bikes running the same brakes. As a matter of fact, on most, the rear caliper and disc is the same as front, so that info could help.

Good luck, and keep us posted.
