A couple of weeks ago I went on a ride around the cabot trail in Cape Breton. A friend and I went up there to participate in a poker run that was raising money for breast cancer research. It was a 5+ hour ride to get to Sydney and then a day on the trail and another 5+ hours to get home. In total we put about 1400kms on the bikes. If you've never heard of the Cabot trail you don't know what your missing. It is easily one of the top 2 rides in Canada. There are tons of 30km twisties and something to take a picture of around every corner. Unfortunetly the weather didn't really co-operate with us so it was overcast and cold with spurts of rain here and there. Because of the low temps and the fact that we were on a poker run we didn't stop to take nearly as many pictures as we would have liked. Just yesterday myself and the friend that went on the run with me both went out and bought cam corders and I picked up a helmet cam to go with mine, so next year I think I'll record the entire ride. Here are a few pics from the weekend.
Over 330 riders showed up for the event that raised more then $10,000 for breast cancer research.
We stopped at this look off point to enjoy a few minutes of sun and to begin our 30kph twisty decent down the mountain. The black Vmax shown in the picture belonged to a couple that rode all the way down from Nunavut!
Here's the view from the lookoff. There is no gaurd rail at this particular spot.
Wreck Cove. One of the last stops on the poker run.
One cool looking chopped Yamaha
Last stop Sydney at the "Big Fiddle"

Great pics, I gotta get out of Florida!
Wow...that is gorgeous, I'd be burning tires and gas like it was my job if I lived out there. Looks a lot like West Virginia but with higher mountains, well, and an ocean. Amazing. I just googled the trip up to NV and its a bit far from Michigan. Maybe one day.
Absolutely beautiful. And a great fund raiser, too.
Your riding season is pretty short, isn't it? Bet you really enjoy your summer rides!
In memory of my friend Deron Harden. Life isn't going to be the same without him.

I usually get the bike out around the end of March and ride until the end of October. Last year a lot of people around here were still riding off and on up until new years. I park my bike in my basement though and it's a pain getting it in and out so when I park it it stays there till spring. I also live down a dirt road so early spring and late fall the road is mucky.Originally Posted by jukief

what are the odds! where do you live in ns? i too live in nova scotia, i wasnt at this run though, had other things going on.
side note, did you hear about the guy on the sport bike that was banged up a couple weekends ago on kellys mountain? apparantly they made the run at a high speed, then he went back up for another go round while his buddys videotaped him from the bottom, he wsa pushing it harder the second run and lost it and slammed into a gaurd rail, last i heard he may lose one or both of his legs. i just wanted to mnake sure it wasnt during the same run that your talking about, i dotn think it was though.
Those pics made me want to ride right now - and it is raining here.
Drool....
Mental note, take bike to Australia in my llifetime. Looks to have some of the nicest riding roads on the planet!
