I traded up from an 800 to a 1500 Classic, too. You're going to love it. The 1500 is a great bike. Mine is 100% dependable. Runs flawlessly all day long, up steep mountain twisties and across long hauls at high speed on the straightaways. I love my bike. Congratulations!
