I put them on hold for now. I had some other things on my bike I wanted to do before I started those. What are you saying would scrape? Nothing on the 800 would.

Not sure if it is different on a 900. to an 800. I am about to buy one, and this is the only thing stopping me - I want mid controls bad! I don't have a good photo, but you can see how the linkage comes out below the transmission case.

The guy I spoke to about it said you have to mount the pegs/shifter below this to get the leverage to make it work. By the time you have fixed this in you will be looking at having the pegs mounted below the frame.

Most mid mount controls come straight out the side (not down)

I guess you could get fab up a bent piece that sits snug againt the transmission case to move the leverage point up higher but you still need to mount them somewhere and if you do it to the frame they will scrape.

something along these lines converted to the gear linkage could work

you can just see what this guy has done, but again, I am convinced on a VN it would scrape

If you have an idea please let me know.

Sorry I dont have better photos, I am looking in to this at the moment before I get in to it.

sorry, this is the other side to the brass unit. you can see how it would work if you could get the shifter arm to come out the side

either way, these guys stuff is great even if not for what we are talking about G&L Choppers - CUSTOM PARTS

The controls don't need to be below the shifter. The stock pegs and linkage are higher than it now. I just don't understand theory behind not having enough leverage. I was gonna design it to be same concept as my jockey shifter.

I was gonna get a shorter linkage made and then turn it around like I did with the jockey shifter and have a fitting coming off my lever to connect it to. It would look exactly the same as my jockey set up just shorter. Basically both sides would look like the brake side of the xs650 above.

Yeah, that is what I was getting at... I just have a feeling you'll want your mounts right on top of the shift linkage and that may cause problems.

Any way, good feedback - Apologies to all for derailing the thread a bit. Not sure if I am the only one who wants to do this.

I would have the point where the linkage attaches to the pedal lower. I have some ideas. For now I think I am just gonna build some stationary mid pegs for traveling and leave my stock set up. If you think about it, there is not going to be much difference in your foot position. That is why I kind of put it on the back burner. I figure the traveling pegs mounted in the mid will be good enough for me right now. If I want to ride with them around town I can, or I can pull em off and use them just when I travel.

Finally the end. Just spent the last 2 or 3 hours looking through all 44 pages. There was a lot of cool and great looking bikes. as well as tons of info and Idea for my bobber project. This is what I am starting with. It is a 1980 KZ 1000 Classic. For those of you who know about the Classic, this bike is no longer fuel injected. I got it for free, I think free is good starting point.

Does anyone know what make/model these tyres are and also their sizes? It looks like the front is the same size as the back.

Wanna get these on my VN800 that I am bobbing at the moment, was hoping to go bigger than my 150/80 on the back if possible.

I don't think Donk is around anymore!

Those look to be Continental Milestones. Not sure on size but they look stock. 140/90 rear 130/90 front maybe?

Pantani, stick with a narrower rear tire. Fat back tire is not bobber.

    Danase

This bike looks awesome. I think you said this is a Vulcan 900, is that correct.

Do you or anyone know the differences between the 800 and 900. Is it engine size only for the differences or is it more than that?

Can you provide details about your bike such as tire sizes maker name, handle bars, rear fender and seat info.

    Thanks

    DC
