Hi, me and a friend hired two Harleys last year and went down to the south of France, 640miles in one hit, obviously stopping for fuel, and got caught in the mother of all storms. Hope that doesn't happen this year. 3 of us are taking our own bikes this time so it should be good fun....to be honest i realy only take the bike out in fine weather because of all the chrome on it.I don't get much enjoyment from riding in the winter,The duckbill was aready removed when i got it,but when i have been out and the roads have been wet ive not noticed any real problems.

I don't see too many without the duckbill, so I had to ask. If you take any pics on your trip you might post them at an appropriate place on this forum and make some of us envious. Be safe.

I have seen a few people who have put footpegs on their crash guards to give them the option of stretching out on the highway. AndyP1, has his bike set up with forward controls, maybe he will chime in.

Hi, sorry been away.... ok forward controls...these are an after market product, i have got details and paper work on these controls which i will have to dig out and post..i think they came from holland !!! ..take a look at the photo...very easy to ride...only probs is that the standard rear brake does not work very well(doesn't realy matter)...the fixing on the rear break cog where your normal rear break pedal would be sticks out too far so the angle is wrong for the forward facing control to work properly...so we cut it down made it shorter to get the angle right..now its spot on ...you can see the work on the second photo as it needs chroming..

thanks for the info. i figured id have to come up with something custom. now is it comfortable with them out there. cuz with the motor so wide i wondered if youd have to have your legs hang out real far. or if the pegs would scrap on the ground in turns? if you come across the info on where ya got them please do post it. thanks again.

Nice looking ZL900. Is that a larger headlight or just the camera angle?

Nice 900...someone parted out a bike on Ebay about a month ago...they put up the radiator shrouds, but I don't think they sold. You might give them a try... 1985 Kawasaki ZL900 Eliminator under Radiator Fairing - (eBay.ca item 150259632517 end time 22-Jun-08 15:13:38 EDT) was the item, here is their email address if you want to reach them directly: jjacquesmardier@aol.com Good luck!

you may want to email that person anyhow: they are parting out the entire bike, and may still have the part you need!

Just got my zl back from the doctors as it wasn't very well, they found a few probs with it
1 No 4 sparkplug swimming in oil
2 carb dyiophram split
3 throttle slider on carb not working..

anyway they fixed it and set it up on dyno250 with real time air flow blaa blaa and got it spot on...
b4 the guy worked on it he rode it and said it was "horrible" i asked him if he took it out after it was set up and what did he think...his reply was that he "thought that he had been fired out of a cannon" and thats from a guy that builds race engines... when i looked at the dyno print out the hp was 90 but the torque was 113 ft-lbs... standard they are about 64 ft-lbs... to put it in perspectif a 1300 bussa puts out 128 ft-lbs...so its one fast mother

cheers

sweet bike-I always wanted a bigger one. I had a 250 eliminator I got on a trade some years ago and sold it.
The 900 is a super sweet bike

Glad to hear that you and your ZL are back on the road.
Your story about the guy feeling like he was shot from a cannon reminds me
that after I painted my bike I left the pillion seat off because I liked the way it looked, but, the first time that I had the chance to open it up,
I almost flew off the bike because I was used to having the pillion seat to act like rear cowl and catch me on hard acceleration. Needless to say, I put the pillion back on after that. My arms aren't long enough to reach the bars if I'm sitting on the duckbill.

Default Forward controls paperwork

I was just wondering if you had ever found the paperwork on the forward controls. I'm really not interested in forward controls, but this looks like an interesting alternative to the crash bars that can't be found anywhere, and would double as a nice set of highway pegs.

Thanks!

That looks to be in real good shape. That bike as you probably know was a mean machine right out of the factory door back then.
