I wave even when I am in a cage. I used to mountain bike all the time, and waving really does pay off. Some people though just dont care and believe they own the road, and that's when it gets dangerous. Still working on a bike. Definately wave, it pays off.

Eh, no STATE cops that are on bikes in NY. Several cities have bike cops. Troy for example, as I've been pulled over in a car by one before. Generally though these are the more laid back cops from my experience.

Karma never worked for me Spok. And the biker cops that have ever pulled me over have been dycks. Maybe they think they are even MORE holier than though than regular cops, idk. The only waive ive given to a cop in the last 10 years is the one fingered waive (im sure you can guess which finger).

One of the last ones(no i didnt give this one the bird although he deserved it) on a bike - he was actually leaned over it while standing beside with a radar gun - then proceeds to jump out into the MIDDLE of my lane to direct me to pull over like he was landing a plane. After i was all nice about the ticket i told him that he should be careful and that maybe thats not the best way to pull someone over whos doing 70mph. What if for any reason i couldnt stop? Or by slim chance that i just didnt see him in the glare of the sun? Then he wanted to be a real smart azz about that so i told him maybe next time my brakes would *wink wink* accidently fail. He told me to get on down the road basicly. |

I no longer have a cage, so I ride my bike everywhere. I'm always passing bike cops on the road and never forget to give them a wave and a friendly nod. Without fail, they return the gesture. I'm a firm believer of trying to spread the kindness around. I wave to all bikers anyway (cruisers and sport bikes alike), so it's nothing more to wave to cops as well. I've yet to be pulled over on my bike, and while I'm sure a regular wave doesn't hurt, I'm confident the giant milk-crate strapped to my sissy bar every other day doesn't make me look like a very appealing target to charge with being a speed demon! Don't laugh too much. I'm an English teacher, and NINETY student journals are too big to fit in a bookbag!

That's amazing! I did NOT realize that "English" was still taught! Given the demographics in the "un-united" states and the growth of "txtngl", what would be the point of teaching "English".. An increasing percentage of the population in "Jolly Old England" is ...not... English! Methinks English is going the way of Latin... merely an amusing subject It's really unfortunate, not to say pathetic, that the linguistic instrument is increasingly less played well. After all, the language is a reflection of our thought process and I (sigh) am sad to see its decline as the decline reveals the deterioration of the educational process. That's not a reflection on the educators, by the way. I did that for more than a decade. I might give the "one finger salute" someday, but if it was to a "copper" it would my thumb up! Most of them work well and give us peace. Sigh, if more folks understood that they have certain rights, but that those rights are the results of careful thought and determination on the part of folks who fought real opression... but then I am just... ah well. Salute to those who teach. I used to like being called "professor" until I looked it up and found the definition: "One who professes to know something". Humbled. Have a good day and pray for a better tomorrow! Meanwhile, the motorcycle awaits. It is ready, willing, able and compliant! No wonder whatsoever that we like it! |

I actually took almost 3 years of Spanish in school. About the most I can do is buy is order a beer or buy a hat (which I suppose can come in handy, I guess). However, the one phrase they never teach is: ¿Dónde está la Embajada norteamericana? (Where is the American Embassy?). I'm pretty sure that learning that phrase (in the appropriate language) should be one of the first things you learn when travelling to any non-English foreign country... Then you can order all the beer and hats you want... Last edited by CTRider : 10-10-2008 at 10:48 AM. |

Here in JAX FL a police officer just shot a 16 year old kid in the leg for running away from him. The kid was un-armed, and afterwards was not charged with a crime. The kid just got shot for nothing. The running joke is the cop was overweight and couldn’t catch the kid.
I nod out of respect. Not for the person, profession, or the badge... but because they can make your life he11 (legally and illegally) if they are so inclined and get away with it. Just ask the kid.

Well, I see this thread going down the toilet already! Maybe instead of killing an entire thread, the mods should leave it open and drop the posters that cross the line. There are MANY of us in here that can openly and evenly discuss things like mature adults!
Anyway, smile it FRIDAY!!!!!!!!! and a 3 day weekend for many!!!!!!!!!!
