Default Dense Fog is Cold

So it was a warm night with negligible wind, about 74 degrees F outside. Perfect for riding. So I hopped on my bike and headed into the rolling hills of Eastern Oklahoma- smooth roads and gentle curves.

Then, I came across some fog. It got thicker by the mile and, before long, I couldn't see much past 50 feet. Also, what was 74-75F at the start of the ride was now 48 degrees in the fog. I was dressed for 60F + and 48F was making me shake on the saddle!

With only my textile jacket and my zeal to keep me warm, I headed home quick and safe as possible, feeling the temp increase as I climbed out of the fog.

Don't drive into fog unless you like being wet and cold and surprised by deer in the road 20ft ahead.

Lesson learned...

I read your subject and started laughing... been there done that and it isn't fun if not dressed for it. The dampness is what gets me the most in fog, might as well be riding in rain after a few miles. Glad you made it home!

+1 to that.

I had a nice ride that it seemed to get thicker and thicker as time went on.

The thickest it got barely put a couple of beads of water over the top of the shield and a couple drops formed on the tank and at the ends of my boots sticking out on the higway pegs.

Although.... I do have to admit it was kind of amusing watching the water droplets rise up and above my head from under neath me. I'm assuming they got caught towards the end of the tank and flew straight up. My visor on the full face was very much dry.

I was wearing chaps and a leather jacket with a sweatshirt. I was prepared for it, however I wasn't going to be too happy had that water made it to my crotch where the leathers were not. Thank goodness that never happened.

Not only is it cold, and hard to see 50 feet in front of you in the fog, I had to dodge a tractor trailer chock block in the middle of the highway while doing 70mph.

I started out early one morning to get breakfast before a ride. The fog was thick as pea soup. It wasn't so bad riding since I was dressed for it, but the guy who blew a red light and nearly tagged me made for quite a scare. You gotta watch that stuff extra close.

Another thing that can make a warm day cold is a thick layer of evergreen canopy. On a nice 70 degree day, the nice open road I was on ran into some heavy tree color. When the sun disappeared from view, the temperature dipped more than enough to make me chilly.

Happened to me this morning, but went from 48F to much lower in the fog... got to work with a thin film of moisture all over my... wearing a half helmet and goggles, I was a bit messy!

Anyhow, I feel your pain!
