Default Watch that left turn lane beside you...

...the guy in it might not turn left.

This was my drive to work this morning:

Aproaching my regular right turn on the way to work following a stop at the nearby Dunkin Donuts, a guy whips around me and the rest of the line of cars starting up from the red light. He breezes up the left turn lane and squeezes his way into the through traffic going through the intersection. I've seen a lot of boneheaded and inconsiderate maneuvers before, but this was a jawdropper how brazen he was when doing it. Usually, people at least make it look like they accidently ended up in the left lane and make it seem like they're waiting to be let in line. Not a bit of hesitation, and his SUV would have pancaked a bike.

Just a mile away, I was at a red light with a smaller pickup beside me in the left lane. When the light turned green and I headed into the intersection, he nearly sideswiped me. He backed off at the last second, realizing mine was much bigger than his (you know, the trucks). I certainly wouldn't have held my ground without 4400 lbs of steel around me, though.

So, watch that left lane beside you. If the guy goes straight, he might not see you in his blind spot.

also look for people turning on their left blinker, and when you proceed to go around them on their right they abruptly bang a right instead - that happened to a friend last weekend and he got tagged

Probably a good idea to question every blinker in case it's a leftover from another turn.

I've seen that same maneuver used a lot up here. I think it stems from all the CT, drivers coming here for college.

They don't intend to do anything accept steal your right of way, and if that means killing someone in the process, Oh well, I didn't see them officer. Yeah right!!
