Took a 2 hour trip to see a friend, and see/ride with him since he just got his pile of 74 yahamamamama sc500 going. (I got to laugh at him profusely everytime he kicked over the engine, then I pressed my start button!)
anyway, its a good 140-160 mile trip, I had filled up near the end of our trip out today. I left around 4pm. made it 99 miles when my fuel light came on, was running ~75 up 64! I still have ~40-60 miles to go! stop at an exit I know, but station I dont. not a usual area I visit. normal routine of fill up, reset petcock, pop cap, get the gas going, oop, let me adjust the flow and move the nozzle some.....umm why isn't it releasing.....CRAP why isnt it releasing! the spring on the lock lever was GONE! so it auto locked in the nearly full flow setting. thankfully I wasnt at an actual stopping point, just adjusting. made it home fine....but with this story stored! simply - check that the gas pump doesnt make you catch on fire at the station!

Just shove the end of the nozzle into the fuel in the top of the tank and it'll shut off by itself.

Depending on the pump nozzle brand, there can be issues. In some case wearing out, others might be out of adjustment.
IMHO, don't trust the auto shut-off. Stick your nose in there and pump it slow. |
