Talking Riding milestones reached this week....

It's been a great week for me, in terms of riding improvement.

I got my chain and sprocket done last week, and picked the bike up Saturday. Chris was supposed to be following me home in the car, but he got caught behind some traffic, and it wasn't till I was halfway home, I realized he wasn't there! But I did fine! My first solo flight, and I passed with flying colors! YAY!!

So Sunday, we had a benefit car show to attend, about 45 miles from home. Winds were forecasted about 30 mph, with gusts upward of 40 mph. I was freaked.... but Chris was like, "you need to learn how to ride in wind. You'll be fine..... " So off we went. It was HAIRY..... the wind was insane (even worse on the way home, as it had picked up some speed, AND we were now riding INTO it), but I did it! And without even stopping to rest or catch my breath (I was a wee bit tense!). It was great!! And a spectacular day for a car show.....

So finally today, I decided to ride to work for the first time.... I was a wee bit nervous (ok more than a bit)... but Chris kept telling me (before he headed off to work himself) that with all the wind and everything I rode through the other day, my commute to work would be nothing (it's still very windy here, and will be till... oh... June!) But I sucked it up, and did it! It was wonderful.... what an exhilirating way to start the day! WOW! It was cool, a bit cloudy, and very windy, but it was awesome. Overall, everyone in traffic was very cooperative, and the only time I got a little scared was when a big Semi passed me at like 100 mph (I was sticking to about 10 over the speed limit -- right at 75 mph).

Everyone at work is just in awe... it's so funny! All day long, people at work have been coming up to me, "Is that your bike out there?" (we have assigned parking)... they're all really impressed.

YA ME!!

Your first solo flight? I always thought you had a million miles racked up already...hmmm...

I've ridden my scoot to work many times. I even have a special spot on the loading dock right next to my building downtown. People always look at me funny when they see me carrying in my helmet. I'm hoping that my Ninja will fit in the same spot so I don't have to look for a new one. For some reason our streets & parking garages here frown on motorcycles.

I'll probably start riding to work (the cycle, not the scoot) again once I get my MSF class done & the endorsement on my license. For now, it's just practice riding with & without spousal support!

Nope, only took my MSF last June (wasn't allowed to even TOUCH the bike till I'd taken/passed it), then it took till November to get my bike up and running (it's a project bike), then one thing after another... Boyfriend had wrist surgery, then the holidays, then my tires were bad, then my sprocket needed replacing... It was like, as soon as I'd start getting comfy on the bike again, something would get me off-track.

But now the bike is running like a top, I've overcome some fears (the solo ride, bridges, wind, traffic) and getting more confident.... Now it's more a matter of refining my skills and getting better/faster.

That's how I felt coming off of my solo ride last Wednesday (the post with the lake pics). I even got to deal with the wind situation. You know how the song goes, right? Oooooooooooooooklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plainssssssssssss! Yeah, where the wind will knock you over while stopped for a signal is more like it.

Congratulations, you just discovered why you'll never see a motorcycle parked in front of a psyciatrists office!

Now that you're out there riding, Nee, you're going to be racking up the miles. It's a lot of fun to ride with your partner or with a group, but I also like the feeling of getting out on my own so I can go where I want at my own pace. I sure do miss commuting to work. I used to ride almost every day, even in the winter (unless it was colder than 30 degrees). Now I never leave my bedroom to work... Just think of all the money you're going to save on gas!

LMAO.... No, not yet (hmm... but gives me an idea for when I get home )

We do have some pics of the girls sniffing Chris' helmet and tankbag when he got home from work one day last week.... Tigger leapt into the helmet for a second, but got out before I could get the camera turned on. It was so cute!!

Good job Nee, you should be proud, and I know you are. The more you ride the more confidence you build, and the better you well be at ridiing. Keep it up, who knows one of these days you might just show up outside mine or Derons door!

OK, here is the low down that I was given on motorcycles in parking garages. they don't want the liability of letting us park there because of the automated gates. when they have sensors (like at stop lights) they don't pick up most bikes. even the attended ones are one touch operations, the gate comes down after certain length of time. they don't want you to take too much time getting out and get clothes lined by the gate and the bike go out into the street out of control.

stupid to me since I can just go around the gate but parking garages are private business.
