I had a couple of small scratches on the tank that were there when I bought it. I wanted to cover them up and ended up at the ColorRite site. Navigated to the page for my bike and color - 2 choices. Chose the one that looked like it, and ordered the touch-up pens I needed along with primer and clear.
Arrives, but when I went to test the color (thankfully I tested it first) it was not even close. Almost a black where I was expecting a red. So I contact them to try and resolve it. First - they tell me it was my screen resolution that made the colors look different than they really are and that is why I got the wrong color. Not their site. The colors look right to them. Oh - and never mind the fact I make my living programming so I have one of the better PCs and a good monitor and card. Nope - my problem that my monitor is showing black to be a shade of red. Doesn't happen anywhere else on the Internet but it seems to happen on their site. (Is this red or black?) Anyhow - I want the right color. So I ask how to return the wrong one and get a credit for it since it clearly is wrong and order the correct one (which also requires a "base" meaning even more $$). Haven't heard from them since. Email and phone calls are ignored. Not sure what I'll do about the color right now -- but it looks like it won't be dealing with ColorRite. I'm just offering up caution to anyone else out there thinking of getting painnt from them. Do so at your own risk because they certainly are not going to help you if there is a problem. Let me know if you have a good alternate site for touch up paints. I still need to cover that primer I applied! |

I'm a web developer, my brother is a web designer.
I keep a CRT and LCD monitor side by side because colors do look different, but usually across technologies (CRT vs. LCD vs. plasma), not across brands. The bigger issue is that the newer technologies emit light, even for black, which will always have color of some sort. As an FYI, if you have a black image, gif or jpeg for example, inside of a table cell with a black background defined in hexidecimal inside of the HTML, you will always see the image as a more pure black, it will be more prevelent on an LCD monitor, especially if you look at it from an angle. Usually when the color is off, it shows as a dark red. Lesson learned, never color match to a web site. Hexidecimal format for color definition leaves too many blank wholes in the real word color spectrum. I liked the ColorRite products for my recent paint job but I had the actual paint color + number available to me. Oh and you are right, screen resolution has nothing to do with it, although the color quality, 16bit vs. 32bit for example, may. Which is probably what they meant, even though they didn't say that. Wish I had a good site to get the OEM paint from for you, but I would suggest getting the OEM color code before dealing with another manufacturer so that it's matched properly. If you cannot, you may be able to take a painted peice to home depot or lowes and get them to give you a color code using that fancy machine they match paint with, although I am not 100% sure that would work, but it has to be better than eyeballing it. Cheers.

Its called the house of colors, they are on the web and in everystate, at any auto body paint store. If they can't match it for you well than you are screwed. Good luck hope you get a match.

Good choice.
I love Midori. Ever had it as a 'Floater' over a Top Shelf Margarita? Very smooth and melon-y.
