Default Simple Green bites...

.... through pretty much anything petroleum based.

Saturday morning I settled down with a stool and a bucket to clean every inch of my bike. The condition of the finish on my side cases has been bothering me for a while and the spokes on the back wheel had a nice coat of darkened wax on them, so I went to the store and got some simple green and some fine steel wool. sprayed everything down with the simple green and got to polishing. The thing turned out much prettier though I need to go over the sidecases with some metal polish to even out the finish and protect against oxidation. nonetheless, when I was done, I got the hose out and rinsed it off.

As I sat fiddling with something else I noticed the little stream of water running away from the bike down the parking lot was a lot darker than it should have been. hmmm. I looked a bit father down the stream and noticed that where it crossed a parking space line, the line was a bit washed out. Seems that simple green will eat asphalt resurfacer and the paint lines on a parking lot. Glad I rent or I would be ****ed. Note to anyone using it in the future - it's spectacular at cutting grease, but also at destroying your driveways finish.

We use it to clean scuba tanks to prep them for 100% oxygen at 3500psi... any hydrocarbons present can cause ignition.

Ha! I am mistaken, it wasn't simple green, it was "Purple Cleaner" I have to imagine that the name is more involved than that, but it's at home right now, and I'm not.

thanks for clearing that up. simple green is supposed to be organic. i was surprised to see it peeled the driveway surface.
that purple stuff is petroleum based. simple green works great. smells like crap, but works great

Purple Power is what we use. Works just like he said and it is certified biodegradable. It's also cheap!!
